The Day of Russian Science is celebrated today

The history of the holiday dates back to the times of Peter the Great. At his command in 1724 on February 8 was issued a decree on the development of science in the Russian state, thanks to which the first Academy of Sciences and Arts appeared. 

With the 275th anniversary of the founding of the Academy, it was decided to establish a holiday "Day of Russian Science", taking into account the role of outstanding discoveries and the work of great minds of mankind for the development of the state and society as a whole.

In the period from February 8 to 15 in the capital's museums and institutions of additional education will be held thematic events dedicated to the Day of Russian Science. 

Day of Russian Science at VDNKh: the museum city of VDNKh invites to thematic excursions, screening of a movie-almanac, as well as to expositions devoted to science.  

On February 8, the State Biological Museum named after Timiryazev will hold another broadcast of the weekly program "Talk to a biologist", timed to coincide with the holiday.

On February 9, the Russian Museum of Medicine will hold an immersive tour dedicated to the history of medicine. 

On the Day of Russian Science, Moscow Polytechnic employees will hold master classes for students from engineering, IT, media and entrepreneurial classes. The program consists of lectures, quizzes, excursions and business trainings from the university's leading scientists, journalists and media personalities.

Russian President Vladimir Putin honored Russian scientists with high state awards. Among the awardees are teachers and scientists of Novosibirsk State University who are members of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and five MEPhI graduates.

For the 79th time, MISIS University is hosting Science Days, an annual series of conferences, competitions and popular science events for students and schoolchildren from all over Russia who are engaged in or interested in science.

Researchers of the I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation won the annual Moscow Government Prize for Young Scientists. It is awarded for outstanding achievements in the field of natural, technical, and humanitarian sciences, as well as the development and implementation of new technologies in the real sector of the economy and improving the quality of life of the city's population. 

At UrFU, Rector Viktor Koksharov and Vice-Rectors for Science and Information Policy Alexander Germanenko and Alexei Fayustov congratulated scientists, as well as journalists who write about the research of university employees. 

SFU hosted the annual SFU Science Award ceremony in two nominations - Contribution of a Young Scientist to the Development of Science and Success in Mentoring.

Tomsk State University and Tomsk Polytechnic University are hosting informative and educational events for a wide range of participants dedicated to the Day of Science: exhibitions, excursions, lectures, and quizzes.
