Open Doors organizing universities make gains in the final batch of Times Higher Education Subject Rankings 2020.

UK-based THE has today released the latest edition of its global university rankings for Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Clinical, Pre-Clinical and Health, and Psychology.

In the Physical Sciences table, Russia has more universities than in any other of the subject rankings published. Importantly, the majority of these institutions have either improved on last year's performance or remained in the same band. There are currently 18 Project 5-100 participants (which are, at the same time, Open Doors project organizers) in this table. Of these, the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) is a top-100 finisher at number 45, up five places on last year. Russia's top-200 contingent includes National Research Nuclear University MEPhI in the 101-125 band, Novosibirsk State University (NSU) in the 126-150 band, and Tomsk State University (TSU) in the 176-200 band. They are followed by St Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU) at 201-250, ITMO University at 251-300 and Kazan Federal University (KFU) at 301-400, with NUST MISIS, Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) and National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE) also sitting within the top 500. New entrants to the rankings are St Petersburg Electrotechnical University “LETI” (ETU “LETI”) and South Ural State University (SUSU).

Nine Russian universities, including six Project 5-100 participants (and Open Doors project organizers), have earned slots in the Life Sciences rankings, with MIPT ending up in the top 300 (251-300 band), NSU in the top 400 (301-400 band) and KFU and TSU in the top 500 (401-500 band). TSU also debuts in the Clinical, Pre-Clinical and Health rankings in the 401-500 band, which it shares with, among others, a fellow Project 5-100 institution, KFU. In addition, there is NSU in the 501-600 band, and RUDN University and Sechenov University in the 601+ range. HSE has finished in the top 200 of the Psychology rankings for the second consecutive year.

In all, as many as five Russian universities have made it into the top 100 of this year's THE subject rankings. These include four Project 5-100 participants (and Open Doors project organizers): MIPT in Computer Science and Physical Sciences, HSE in Business and Economics, ITMO University in Computer Science, and KFU in Education.

These universities and other Open Doors organizers offer a wide variety of master’s programs to foreign students. Many of them are taught in English. Winners of Open Doors Olympiad can enroll in these programs for free!
