Russian universities feature in the 2019 ShanghaiRanking Academic Ranking of World Universities

ShanghaiRanking Consultancy has released its latest Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). In total, more than 1800 universities are actually ranked and the best 1000 are published.

This year’s league table includes 11 Russian universities.

HSE stands 39th in the latest QS Top 50 Under 50

HSE stands 39th in the latest QS Top 50 Under 50, the sole Russian university to feature in the league table. It has come a long way since making its debut on the list in 2015, when it became this country’s first academic institution to have achieved a ranking. Originally rated in the top 90, it progressed to the top 60 in 2016, top 50 in 2017 and top 40 in 2018.

Partnering with Apple will help students create mobile apps

TSU Higher IT School (HITs) has joined Apple’s iOS Developer University Program. This program is designed for universities that have iOS development courses in their curriculum. TSU project took two bronzes in The Best of Digital Design

Save as ... is a multimedia project of the TSU Higher School of Journalism that received two bronze awards at the international competition The Best of Digital Design, which is held by the Society for News Design, SND. UTMN goes green

For two years, UTMN volunteers have been realizing an environmental project “5R” (Refuse, Reduсe, Reuse, Recycle, Recover), initiated by Hussein Sadykhov, a student of the UTMN Institute of Chemistry. Currently, Ekaterina Mogilnaya, a student of the UTMN Institute of Biology and alumnus of the Russia Youth Environmental Program, manages the project that aims to form and develop environmental thinking of UTMN students and staff.

Separate collection of waste plastic and paper is now available at the UTMN Institute of Biology, Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities, Institute of Mathematics and Computer Sciences, Institute of Earth Sciences, and Institute of Finance and Economics.

UTMN professor Ekaterina Lobanova has developed a course for international students interested in studying the Russian language – “Theater in Russian”. Students of the American University of Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan) became the first ones to take the course.

THE has announced the results of the Emerging Economies University Rankings spanning 43 countries across four continents. THE notes that Russia is the fourth most represented nation in the rankings, with 35 universities ranked - up from 27 previous year.

UTMN Bachelor’s program in public administration gets the European accreditation

UTMN (Tyumen State University) has become the second higher education institution in Russia, which got the European accreditation of the Bachelor’s degree program in public administration "State and Municipal Management". In 2017, the Higher School of Economics was the first university in Russia to get this accreditation.

The European accreditation means that Tyumen University trains future state and municipal employees and heads of government enterprises in compliance with the European higher education guidelines. The bachelor's degree program "State and Municipal Administration" is accredited until September 30, 2021. 



FEFU and leading Korean universities plan to launch new programs and student exchanges

Indian Extravaganza 2018: the Festival of Indian Culture in IKBFU

On November 23, students from India studying at the Institute of Medicine of the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University gave a concert “Indian extravaganza 2018”. The concert was a good opportunity to learn more about the culture and traditions of India. Today 80 students from India study General Medicine, and 50 out of 80 have enrolled in the course this year. The majority of students came from Maharashtra, and this is their first experience of staying abroad.

Participants of the final round are selected during the first qualifying round – the portfolio competition. The list of participants of the final round will be published on February 11 - 15, 2019.

The first 1,000 participants register for the Open Doors Olympiad

More than 1,000 students from 62 countries have registered online to participate in the Open Doors Olympiad. The biggest number of participants - 207 students - chose the Computer Science study area and more than 100 students will be competing in Business and Management, Physics, Economics and Political Science.

The number of Russian universities in the world academic rankings triples over the past six years

On November 12, 2019, Mikhail Kotyukov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia, speaking at the meeting of Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, with members of the Government, addressed the issue of enhancing the international competitiveness of the Russian higher education and science. The top 500 most authoritative world rankings: the Academic Ranking of World Universities, the QS World University Ranking and the Times Higher Education World University Ranking now include 28 Russian universities. In 2012, there were only seven universities from Russia. Currently, 15 leading Russian universities are among the top 500 universities in the world; 19 universities are included in the top 200 in the subject rankings and 11 universities are among 100 best universities in the world.

Registration for the Olympiad is now open

The Global Universities Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation and Rossotrudnichestvo Federal Agency launched the Open Doors Olympiad: Russian Scholarship Project. Russian universities offer more than 300 scholarships to the winners and awardees of the competition.

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has released its fifth QS University Ranking: Eastern Europe and Central Asia (formerly known as the QS University Rankings: Developing Europe and Central Asia). The ranking includes 300 best universities from 26 countries of the region. It is the second time 23 Russian universities have been included in the top 100 higher education institutions.
