More than 1 thousand students from Afghanistan may return to Russia to study
Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation has sent to the Russian Foreign Ministry more than 1.1 thousand applications for visa support for students from Afghanistan, so far more than 800 documents have been prepared. This was announced by the ministry on November 24.
"Currently, 855 visas have been issued to students in the Russian Embassy in Kabul. The process of paperwork continues," the Ministry of Education and Science noted.
The removal of Afghan students will be organized in several stages. Exact dates of the special flights have not been announced.
"The first stage is planned to organize the entry into Russia of 342 Afghan students with valid Russian visas", - added the ministry.
As reported on November 18, about 900 Afghan students admitted to Russian universities wanted to enter Russia to continue their studies.
In recent years, the Russian government has allocated 365 budgetary places in Russian universities for Afghans. But a significant number of young people from the republic studied in Russia at their own expense.
According to the Afghan Embassy in Moscow, more than 1,500 Afghans studied at Russian universities in 2020.
