MGSU experts analyze seismic safety of nuclear power plants in Bangladesh
The nuclear power plant is being constructed according to a Russian project with the participation of the Russian Federation. The research is of high importance due to the fact that the construction area is located in a zone of high seismic activity. Therefore, experts are to implement safe design solutions for nuclear power plant structures that will ensure the mechanical safety, strength and stability of the nuclear power facility. The research is conducted as part of the implementation of the academic leadership program Priority 2030.
In 2025, specialists of the MGSU Research and Education Center "Geotechnics" named after Z.G. Ter-Martirosyan began research on the topic "Special laboratory soil studies under dynamic loads of the Rooppur NPP in the People's Republic of Bangladesh, power units No. 1 and No. 2." The research will allow for long-term forecasting of the behavior of NPP facilities under dynamic impacts of varying intensity to avoid potential emergency situations.
The forecast of the state of the "foundation soils – foundation – bearing structures" system is to be carried out based on the research results. This forecast is necessary for a comprehensive assessment of the safety and sustainability of nuclear power plants. In general, the task is to ensure the safety and reliability of the Rooppur NPP in conditions of high seismic hazard through a detailed study of the dynamic properties of the foundation bed soils.
