Open to the World: UrFU Summarized Its Work on the External Track

Ural Federal University has summarized the results of its international activities for 2025, demonstrating that it has met key performance indicators. The university currently has 5,282 international students, and total revenue from international educational activities amounted to 314.7 million rubles. Sergey Tushin, Vice Rector for International Affairs, reported these figures to the members of the Supervisory Board.

“The university’s achievements in the international sphere confirm its status as a leading educational center in Russia, one that is successfully adapting to the changing conditions of global cooperation and providing high-quality education for international students,” Tushin said.

Among last year’s key achievements, he highlighted the admission of 2,067 international students and 436 participants in continuing professional development programs from 33 countries, as well as the fact that 59% of Ural Federal University’s publications were prepared by the university’s researchers in collaboration with international co-authors, and the university’s network of 61 partner institutions.

Speaking about the geographic distribution and structure of the student body, the vice president emphasized that the main countries of origin for international students are now China (43%), Kazakhstan (30%), Turkmenistan (10%), and other countries (17%). Meanwhile, 77% of students are enrolled in bachelor’s degree programs.

Members of the Supervisory Board approved the university’s focus on improving the quality of applicant selection, developing the preparatory department, strengthening language training, increasing the proportion of master’s and doctoral students, and supporting the most talented students.

It should be noted that UrFU’s partnership portfolio includes 498 active agreements with 334 organizations from 56 countries. Each year, the university hosts approximately 180 visits by foreign delegations, and university representatives participate in more than 50 major international events. Meanwhile, the university itself is preparing to serve as a key venue for the upcoming International Youth Festival, to be held in Yekaterinburg this September.
