Plekhanov University holds leading positions in Russian Ministry of Labour's Graduate Employability Rankings

The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Russian Federation has published the national employability rankings for graduates of universities and colleges. This year, the Ministry of Labour detailed the rankings of higher education institutions for the first time: within broad fields of study, specific groups of specialities and training directions have been identified.

"The rankings demonstrate the demand for graduates of a particular university or college compared to graduates of other educational organisations offering training in the same specialisation. The rankings are not an integral assessment of universities and colleges; they characterise one aspect – the professional demand for graduates who have received a diploma from a given institution. Taking into account feedback from applicants and universities, this year in higher education we have expanded from eight general fields to 52 enlarged groups of specialities," noted Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Protection of the Russian Federation Dmitry Platygin.

The final position in the ranking is calculated based on two equally weighted criteria: the proportion of graduates who found employment two years after completing their studies, and their median salary based on the results of the second year of employment.

According to the Ministry of Labour's ranking, Plekhanov University achieved the following positions:

5th place in "Economics and Management" (Bachelor's/Specialist).

5th place in "Industrial Ecology and Biotechnology" (Bachelor's/Specialist).

5th place in "Computer and Information Sciences" (Bachelor's/Specialist).

5th place in "Industrial Ecology and Biotechnology" (Bachelor's/Specialist).

2nd place in "Information Security" (Master's/Residency).

2nd place in "Mathematics and Mechanics" (Bachelor's/Specialist).

2nd place in "Service and Tourism" (Bachelor's/Specialist).

3rd place in "Jurisprudence" (Bachelor's/Specialist).

3rd place in "Service and Tourism" (Master's/Residency).

4th place in "Mass Media and Information-Library Science" (Master's/Residency).

Additionally, the Pyatigorsk branch of Plekhanov University secured 2nd place in the enlarged group "Economics and Management" (Master's/Residency).

"Plekhanov University's high positions in the national graduate employability rankings are a natural result of the systematic work of the entire university team. We are proud that our graduates are in demand across the labour market in a wide range of fields – from economics and information technology to engineering and law. This success confirms that the level of specialist training at Plekhanov University meets the most modern requirements and employer expectations. We will continue to develop our educational programmes in order to remain among the leaders and prepare the professionals of the future," said Ivan Lobanov, Rector of Plekhanov University.

In accordance with a directive from the President of Russia, starting in 2025, the national rankings of educational organisations by graduate employability are published annually on the "Work in Russia" portal as part of the national project "Cadres". The ranking is based on employment data for 496,000 higher education graduates from 1,000 universities and 698,000 secondary vocational education graduates from 3,861 colleges.

The rankings take into account employment under labour contracts and civil‑law contracts, as well as self‑employment.
