On 25 October, MGIMO International Marketing team launched the International School Olympiad for Foreign Citizens at the Russian Cultural Centre in Beijing. Over 30 Chinese school students took part in the competition. The Olympiad comprised two sets of tasks: English language test and interdisciplinary test in Chinese (geography, world history, international relations, and bilateral ties between Russia and China).
The in-person competition was held with the traditional financial support of OJSC «Russian Railways».
It’s the first time Chinese nationals had a chance to participate in the Olympiad. Winners selected by the competition committee will be eligible for tuition-free places in undergraduate programs and at MGIMO’s Preparatory School. Runners-up will receive priority consideration for fee-paying places.
MGIMO students who are currently on an exchange program in Beijing provided valuable assistance in preparing and running the Olympiad. Valeria Ivanova (second-year master’s student, International Relations), Andrey Vyrodov (fourth-year undergraduate, International Relations), Arina Selivanova (fourth-year undergraduate, International Relations) and Elizaveta Shcherba (second-year master’s student, International Journalism) provided language support and helped coordinate the event.
The Beijing round was part of MGIMO’s programme in China, which aims to strengthen educational ties and foster academic cooperation between Russia and China. We express our gratitude to the Representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo
and the Embassy of the Russian Federation in China, as well as the Russian Railways, for supporting our endeavor on this track.
