Registration for Open Doors Olympiad 2024 is open
The Open Doors International Olympiad is starting for the eighth time! Depending on the chosen direction, the winners of the Olympiad will be able to enroll for free in the master's or postgraduate programs of their chosen University. Or, if the postdoctoral track is chosen, to get employed as a researcher in one of the suggested research projects.
Winners of the doctoral track will be able to choose a future research supervisor and pass an interview with them during the Olympiad. Postdoctoral track winners will be interviewed by research project leaders.
This year there are 14 subject areas available, same as last year. Participation in the Olympiad and further education at the University are possible in Russian or English.
Foreigners from ANY country can participate in the Olympiad, as well as compatriots permanently residing abroad and stateless persons.
Participants of the master's track must have a bachelor's or specialist's degree. Participants of the doctoral track will need a specialist's or a master's degree. It is possible to apply without the documents confirming these degrees, but only if one is planning to complete the appropriate level of education in 2025. In this case the documents must be presented as soon as they are issued.
Postdoctoral track requirements are a bit different. Here, the participants must get their PhD or candidate/doctor of science degree no later than the registration start day (September 16).
Additionally, to be allowed to participate, applicants will have to pass a short test in each of the selected subject areas. It’s designed to make a preliminary evaluation of a participant’s knowledge level and get them acquainted with the Olympiad’s interface. Three attempts at this test are provided.
Both master’s and doctoral tracks include 2 rounds that are held online. The first round is a portfolio competition. Those who have been successfully selected after the evaluation of the portfolios are invited to take part in the second round - the Olympiad itself, which is a series of proctored online tests.
In addition to those two rounds, the doctoral track includes one more round which consists of online interviews with up to three potential research supervisors of the participant’s choice. If any of the interviews is successful, the participant chooses a research supervisor from among those who gave them a pass. Should the participant demonstrate a high level of competence yet fail to choose a suitable research supervisor, they can have up to three more interviews with a university representative.
Postdoctoral track also includes three rounds. First round is a portfolio competition analogous to other tracks. Second round requires uploading a video presentation in which the participant makes a case for their ineptest in a research project. Separate video presentations are required for each of the chosen projects. Third round consists of interviews with research project leaders who confirm an interest after having seen the video presentation.
