Open Doors Research Supervisor Receive BRICS+ Women in Science and Technologies Award

Elena Kovaleva, Head of UrFU Laboratory of Biotransformation Technologies and Food Chemistry and Open Door rresearch supervisor, and Aleksandra Khalyasmaa, Head of UrFU Center of Artificial Intelligence Research, are among 28 laureates of the BRICS+ “Women in Science and Technologies Award — 2026”. The award ceremony took place at the Lomonosov Innovation Cluster in Moscow as part of the TechnoScience Forum.

Elena Kovaleva won in the "Fundamental Sciences" nomination. Under her leadership, the university's chemical scientists are working to improve the properties of food. Aleksandra Khalyasmaa was awarded in the special nomination "Artificial Intelligence, information Security and IT". Her research focuses on implementing AI methods and creating production solutions for the Russian enterprises.

This season, a total of 366 applications were received from 15 different countries for the award, organized by the Association of Women Scientists from BRICS+ countries. The winning projects cover a wide range of fields, from genetics and cellular technology to aerospace systems and energy. These scientific achievements will be featured in a documentary titled "Formula of the Future: Women Changing the World", as well as a book dedicated to the award winners. Their stories will serve as an inspiration to thousands of students and young scientists across the countries affiliated with BWSA.

The BRICS+ International Women in Science and Technology Award is an annual award given by the Association of Women Scientists of the BRICS+ countries. The award recognizes the contribution of women to the development of science, technology, education, innovation, and international scientific and technical cooperation in the association’s member countries. Candidates are evaluated in five categories: science, technology, education, innovation and international scientific cooperation.
