Pushkin State Museum and TSU to open the "Swampology. Artists and Scientists Collaborative Research" exhibition
The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts and Tomsk State University, together with Sibur holding, are presenting the final phase of the "Swampology. Artists and Scientists Collaborative Research" project. Starting on November 19, 2024, the Multimedia Art Space CEH (ЦЕХ) in Nizhny Novgorod will host an exhibition showing the results of a two-year study on Siberia's largest ecosystem. Leading scientists from TSU, the Pushkin Museum team, and artist Vasily Kononov-Gredin have worked together on this project. An installation inspired by Russian avant-garde art and the Vasyugan swamps will serve as a centerpiece of the exhibition.
The Swampology project was launched in 2023 by the Pushkin Museum and Tomsk State University. It was Pushkin Museum’s first venture into the field of science-art, building on the museum's ongoing collaborations with contemporary artists from different regions of Russia and exploring the country's cultural, natural, and local features through their work. The project, which brings together contemporary art and scientific knowledge, aims to shed light on complex topics and present new ways of working with materials that fall within the ecologists’ and biologists’ expertise.
