TSU and Myanmar Defence Services Academy will conduct joint research on extreme medicine
Before signing the documents, the delegation of the Academy met with the TSU administration, representatives of the faculties and Lyudmila Ogorodova, Deputy Governor of Tomsk Region for Scientific and Technological Development. The university staff told about their scientific developments in the areas of interest to their Myanmar colleagues.
— The Academy teaches not only military but also civilian disciplines required by the country’s economy. It has chemical, physical and geological faculties, so during the visit we focused on our achievements in scientific and technological disciplines, says Artyom Rykun, TSU Vice-Rector for International Affairs. – In the hierarchy of universities in Myanmar, the Defence Services Academy holds a special place due to the importance of the army in the life of Myanmar society. However, in addition to the fact that this institution trains the highest and other key leaders of the country, the Academy is distinguished by an exceptionally high level of training. For example, for those intending to study in Russia the Russian language is taught there for a year before enrolling in the preparatory faculties with the mandatory involvement of native speakers.
The delegation from the Myanmar Defence Services Academy paid most attention to TSU developments in the field of UAVs, extreme medicine (medical robotics, implants, exoskeletons), detection of people and toxic substances under debris, holographic research of the marine environment, radars, and export of sensitive technologies through Rosoboronexport.
The Rector General of the Academy Thein Lwin and TSU Rector Eduard Galazhinskiy signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the universities. The parties plan to develop and expand scientific and academic cooperation, including exchange of students and teachers, develop joint study programs, and joint scientific events.
The Protocol of Intent signed by Thein Lwin and Alexander Vorozhtsov, Acting Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, is focused on the establishment of a laboratory at the Defence Services Academy for joint research in the field of extreme medicine.
— We are interested not only in cooperation with the Myanmans in the field of education, but also in the possibility of testing TSU technologies to study Myanmar rich natural resources and create modern production facilities in the country, added Artyom Rykun. – We hope that the signing of agreements is only the first step, and if this laboratory is successful, we will move on to the creation of larger-scale joint structures in other areas, for example, a factory for the production of drones.
During their visit, the Myanmar delegation had a tour to TSU Research Library, the laboratories of the TU Faculty of Innovative Technologies and the Tomsk Region BAS Research and Development Center. Together with TSU students from Myanmar, an exhibition dedicated to the Buddhist culture of this country was organized in the library. Besides, the representatives of the Academy met with Myanmar students studying in Tomsk universities.
— Over the past year, the number of students from Myanmar at TSU has increased to nine, and we hope it will continue to grow. Myanmar students study at our postgraduate and doctoral programs at the Faculty of Physics and Technology, Faculty of Innovative Technologies, Faculty of Historical and Political Sciences, says Ekaterina Trifonova, head of TSU International Division. – As a rule, students from Myanmar show very good results. Most of them come from MSU and MGIMO master programs.
It should be noted that as part of their visit, the delegation took part in the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War in Tomsk, and Myanmar students marched in the Immortal Regiment.
It is worth adding that TSU has been developing cooperation with universities in Myanmar since 2022. Earlier the university signed memorandums of understanding with Myanmar Creative University (2022), Yangon University (2024) and Yangon East University (2024). Agreements with Yangon University of Economics and Yangon University of Foreign Languages are under consideration.
