The results of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), which is compiled annually by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, have been published. This year, Ural Federal University has significantly improved its position in the global ranking, rising by 70 positions at once. In the global standings, the university entered the 701–800 group, and in Russia it retained its fourth place – this is the best result among universities outside Moscow and St. Petersburg.
The key factor that enabled significant progress at UrFU was the active scientific interaction between the university’s researchers and their colleagues from other countries, as well as the inclusion of UrFU researchers in the prestigious list of highly cited scientists worldwide. International cooperation and the quality of publication activity allowed the university not only to strengthen its position in the global academic space but also to significantly increase the visibility of Ural science abroad.

Registration for the Open Doors international intellectual competition for international students and young researchers begins on August 20, 2026. Winners and runners-up will have the opportunity to study tuition-free at leading Russian universities within the quota of the Government of the Russian Federation and may also receive additional government grant support.
The center will be located on the UiTM campus in Shah Alam (Selangor state). The Malaysian side will provide the facilities and appoint the center’s director, while FEFU will appoint a co-director to coordinate the joint work on the Russian side. The Institute of Big Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence will serve as the lead scientific partner on the Malaysian side.

A year ago, twenty-five students passed a rigorous selection process to participate in a one-year internship at Central South University in Changsha, China, as part of a joint project between SFU and the company “Polyus.”
