The government has established scholarships named after the distinguished philologist L.A. Verbitskaya

Foreign students and graduate students at Russian universities who have achieved significant results in the field of Russian language and literature will be eligible to apply. The decision was made on the President’s instructions.

Starting September 1, 2026, monthly payments will be awarded to 10 full-time undergraduate students and 10 graduate students (research assistants).

The scholarship amount will be:

15,000 rubles for undergraduate students,

20,000 rubles for graduate students.

The scholarship will be awarded for 12 months, and recipients will be selected on a competitive basis.

This decision will support young professionals who will go on to teach Russian language and literature abroad.

Lyudmila Alekseyevna Verbitskaya (1936–2019) was a Soviet and Russian linguist specializing in Russian studies and a Doctor of Philology. She was one of the initiators of the creation of the Presidential Council on the Russian Language, which was later transformed into the Council for the Implementation of State Policy in the Sphere of Support for the Russian Language and the Languages of the Peoples of Russia.
