Elizaveta Izmaylova, Anastasia Makoveeva, Elizaveta Marchenko, Sofya Mokrushina, and Daria Gilgenberg, students in the International Management master’s program, have already begun their studies at Jilin University of Foreign Languages. They are not only deepening their knowledge in the field of international management but also immersing themselves in the business culture of East Asia.
“Studying in China is a unique opportunity to gain experience living in another country and studying at another university, improve my Chinese language skills, meet interesting people, and visit a wide variety of places in China. I truly enjoy studying and living here. I really like China; I like its culture, style, and way of life. I’m very glad that TSU gives students the opportunity to gain this kind of experience,” says Elizaveta Izmaylova.
Anastasia Makoveeva notes that this is the best decision she has ever made in her life:
— My first month in China flew by in the blink of an eye. We don’t have time to get bored here: our studies are interspersed with endless walks around the city, we practice the language 24/7, and our new friends come from all over the world. This isn’t just a semester abroad—it’s a crash course in networking and improving my language skills. I genuinely enjoy everything that’s happening here. The culture, lifestyle, and style—it all resonates deeply with me. I’m especially grateful that my university provides this opportunity.
As Sofya Mokrushina explains, the best part is the international atmosphere: the professors come from all over the world—Serbia, India, Ethiopia, China. In the dorm, TSU students are constantly interacting with people from other countries, and that’s an invaluable experience. Plus, the food here is incredibly delicious and affordable, and the campus is beautiful and perfect for walks.
— This is my first time in China, so studying and living here is all new to me. We have classes in our major as well as Chinese language classes, which makes the curriculum very rich and interesting. When we have free time, we socialize with students from other countries and learn about Chinese culture,” says Daria Gilgenberg.
According to Elizaveta Marchenko, she appreciates that, in addition to their classes, students have time to explore Chinese culture and traditions:
“The faculty are always ready to help, and it’s especially valuable that there are experts from other countries among them. The atmosphere at the university fosters growth, and I feel I’ve made significant progress in my studies.”
It is important to note that this exchange is two-way: while TSU students are studying in China, representatives from the Chinese partner university will be studying in Tomsk. This synergy allows us to build sustainable intercultural ties and strengthen the position of the “International Management” program as one of the most international programs at TSU’s Institute of Economics and Management.
