The representative office of the Association of International Students in Russia has officially begun operations at Far Eastern Federal University

The organization, which brings together more than 10,000 students from 70 countries, opened its branch on the FEFU campus in the spring of 2026. The branch includes more than 200 international students.

To mark the launch of the new student association, a working meeting was held between the branch’s leadership and FEFU Vice Rector for International Relations Yevgeny Vlasov. The association’s leadership outlined its structure and key areas of support for international students, while the vice rector confirmed the university’s interest in establishing systematic cooperation with the organization. Participants discussed common approaches to addressing challenges related to the development of the international student community, the adaptation of foreign students, and the strengthening of their ties with the university administration.

The AIS office at FEFU is headed by Elijah Akaa, a student from Nigeria who previously led the Association of African Students in Vladivostok. The office also includes students from China, Mongolia, and India who have experience in community and organizational work.

“FEFU has established a systematic approach to working with international students, and the establishment of a representative office for the Association of International Students in Russia within this context represents a new and promising model for student self-organization. We welcome the creation of an association that shares our values and is capable of serving as an effective link between the student community and administrative structures. I am confident that our collaboration will strengthen best practices for supporting and helping international students adapt,” noted FEFU Vice Rector for International Relations Evgeny Vlasov.

As a reminder, Far Eastern Federal University is the undisputed leader among universities in the Far Eastern Federal District in terms of the number of international students. Today, nearly 5,000 foreign nationals are enrolled in full-time programs in Vladivostok. Over the course of 126 years, FEFU has developed an extensive partnership network in the Asia-Pacific region—more than 200 foreign universities and research centers. A key instrument of FEFU’s international activities is its network of representative offices in Asia-Pacific countries. The university has already opened four overseas offices in Hanoi (Vietnam), Beijing (China), Tokyo (Japan), and New Delhi (India). FEFU also has a branch in Japan and 17 Centers for Russian Language and Culture in China.

Students from 84 countries around the world study at Far Eastern Federal University. The university has created all the necessary conditions to ensure their comfort and help them adapt as quickly as possible. The FEFU campus is constantly being updated and improved. In 2024, by special order of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Far Eastern Federal University joined the program to build world-class campuses as part of the national project “Youth and Children.” The second phase of the FEFU campus will include a new dormitory complex for 4,000 people. By 2030, a constellation of 25 new university campuses will emerge across the country. Work in this area is being led by the Government of the Russian Federation and the Russian Ministry of Education and Science.
