The analytical agency "Expert" published the results of the second ranking of the best engineering universities in Russia. Universities were evaluated in three areas: publication activity, willingness to generate innovations, and ability to create technological entrepreneurs. Tomsk Polytechnic University entered the top ten of the list.

The first ranking was presented by "Expert" in 2025. It is noted that the authors have made a number of methodological changes this year, taking into account the feedback received from universities. For example, the ranking now includes digital intellectual property assets and estimations of the extra-budgetary income from university research and development work.

"We assessed the degree of universities' involvement in the country's new agenda through the prism of their achievements in engineering science publications, creation and commercialization of intellectual property," the authors of the ranking are quoted on the website of the Expert Analytical Agency.

Tomsk Polytechnic University ranks 8th-10th. This is the best result among Tomsk universities. Overall, the ranking includes universities from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Kazan, and other cities of Russia.

According to the authors of the ranking, the results of the current study show that universities are enhancing applied research and development. Moreover, they note high progress in creating digital solutions and services by universities.
