On September 11, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Russian Federation, H.E. Iji Joseph Olusola, visited MGIMO.
Stanislav Surovtsev, Vice-Rector for Students’ Development and International Affairs, welcomed the Ambassador and spoke about MGIMO’s cooperation with Nigerian educational and research institutions. He noted that the university already signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs and a cooperation agreement with the University of Lagos. This serves as a platform for the further expansion of academic, research, and educational ties. In his turn, the Ambassador expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and expressed hope that this cooperation will continue to strengthen and that the number of Nigerian students studying at MGIMO will increase.
The parties also discussed the prospects of joint research projects and academic events. Special attention was given to practical steps aimed at deepening cooperation between MGIMO and Nigeria’s leading universities and research centers. The meeting with the Ambassador reaffirmed the mutual commitment to further expanding the academic dialogue between Russia and Nigeria and strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties between the two countries.
The meeting was also attended by Vyacheslav Sutyrin, Advisor to the Rector's Office and Deputy Vice-Rector; Maxim Inozemtsev, Dean of Doctoral Studies; and Valeriy Zhuchkov, Deputy Executive Secretary of the Committee of the "Russia–Africa: What’s Next?" forum.
