Services for International Students

International Student Affairs Office

The International Student Affairs Office is part of the structure of the Office of the Vice-Rector for International Relations at FEFU and serves as a key unit responsible for supporting international students throughout their studies at the university. The Office handles a wide range of tasks related to the support of international students:

1. Academic Support
The Office liaises with students on matters related to the educational process, providing advisory support throughout the entire period of study.

2. Visa and Registration Support
The Office coordinates processes related to obtaining invitations for student visas, visa extensions, registration, and migration registration.

3. Health Insurance, Medical Examination, and Fingerprinting
For a comfortable and lawful stay in Russia, international students at FEFU are required to complete three mandatory procedures: obtain health insurance, undergo a medical examination, and have their fingerprints taken (fingerprinting).

  • Health Insurance – This is a policy that guarantees access to planned medical care in Russia. By law, every international student must have valid health insurance for the entire duration of their studies. This means you can visit a doctor, have tests done, or receive treatment at state clinics without paying for each visit out of pocket.
  • Medical Examination – A mandatory medical check-up to confirm that you do not have any diseases that could pose a threat to others. This procedure is established by federal law and is mandatory for all foreign nationals arriving in Russia for a period of more than 90 days.
  • Fingerprinting – The procedure of taking fingerprints and mandatory photographing for the state database. Like the medical examination, it is mandatory for all foreign nationals under federal law.

4. Employment Assistance
International students may always contact the International Student Affairs Office for consultation on employment matters during their studies. You do not need to obtain a separate work permit or patent — you have the legal right to work in your free time from studies. This is your chance to gain valuable professional experience and immerse yourself in the Russian business environment even before graduation.

The university is home to nearly 5,000 international students from 84 countries, and a wide range of services and support programs have been developed for them.

FEFU runs a student organization called "Mentor by the Sea," which helps international students adjust to life in Russia during their first year of study.

The adaptation program includes:

  • Excursions and hiking trips
  • Cultural festivals
  • Intellectual quizzes
  • Creative evenings

Quote: "The perception that international students have — not only of FEFU but of Russia as a whole — depends on the quality of our work. Their positive experience and high regard for our education are key factors in enhancing the attractiveness of Russian universities in the Asia-Pacific region."
— Ulyana Sosnova, Director of the Department for International Activities Support, FEFU.

In the spring of 2026, a representative office of the Association of International Students of Russia (AIS) was opened at FEFU. The association brings together more than 10,000 students from 70 countries, with over 200 international students joining the FEFU chapter.

The organization is designed to:

  • Facilitate the adaptation of international students
  • Strengthen ties between students and the university administration
  • Develop the international student community

The representative office is headed by Elijah Akaa, a student from Nigeria who previously led the Association of African Students in Vladivostok. The team also includes students from China, Mongolia, and India.

FEFU is developing systematic approaches to the social adaptation of international students:

Volunteering and Community Engagement:
72.3% of international students are involved in volunteer activities, participating in events such as the Eastern Economic Forum, the International Children of Asia Sports Games, festivals, and exhibitions.

Adaptation Events:

  • Meetings with officials from the Federal Migration Service to inform students about residence permits, temporary and permanent residency, and the procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship
  • Music and dance festivals to foster interethnic unity
  • Activities of student organizations, including the Association of Chinese Students, the International Academic Choir, the Association of Russian and International Students, and others.
