Russia to simplify rules of stay in the country for foreign students
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has decided to simplify the stay of foreign students in Russia, creating for them a special legal regime - a temporary residence permit for the purpose of education, in particular, they will not be able to get off the register when leaving Russia during training (for example, on vacation). -

Times Higher Education’s Young University Rankings 2021
According to new THE Young Universities Ratings published this last June, four best Russian young universities all over the world are as follows: National Research University Higher School of Economics (57th position), Siberian Federal University (301-350 positions), Kazan National Research Technical University named after A. Winners and prize-winners who got the quota had their documents sent to the universities which they listed as the first priority. Universities’ representatives contact info has been sent to all respective winners and prize-winners via email.

The 1st Round of the Open Doors Scholarship Project is over. Applications are no longer accepted
All unfinished and unsubmitted portfolios have been submitted automatically. They will be checked and graded along with portfolios that were completed and submitted correctly. This means that if for some reason you’ve failed to complete and submit your portfolio - you will still have a chance to advance to the second round.

Russian universities gain ground in THE rankings by subject
British–based Times Higher Education magazine has published the updated results of THE World University Rankings by subject on October 28, 2020. The representation of Russian higher education establishments has increased from 39 to 48 universities compared to last year's ranking. Twenty of them are universities-organizers of the Olympiad. Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University is among the eight national universities ranked for the first time.

South Ural State University (SUSU, one of the organizers of the Olympiad) and the Federal Nuclear Centre - E. I. Zababakhin All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Technical Physics are implementing a joint project “Mathematical modeling of high-speed processes in the multicomponent heterogeneous environment”.

Registration for Open Doors 2020-2021 is open
The Russian Federation has organized the Open Doors International Olympiad for the fourth time. This year introduces a doctoral track (analogous to Ph.D.) in addition to the usual master’s track. Depending on the chosen direction, the winners of the Olympiad will be able to enroll for free in the master's or postgraduate programs of their chosen University. Participants of the doctoral track will be able to choose a future research supervisor and pass an interview with them during the Olympiad.
